Bid only on items you intend to purchase. If you win an auction and refuse to pay the seller, we will assist the seller in any legal actions needed. By bidding, you enter a contract with the seller and will be held to that contract. Likewise, we will also assist you in any possible way should the seller break the contract by failure to deliver the item.   Do not bid in your own auction. This system will not allow you to participate as a bidder in an auction in which you are also the seller. If you are found to be using an additional account to bid on your own auction, both accounts will be removed and banned.   Items that may not be auctioned... Seller Instructions

I'm ready to sell an item. What do I do? To sell items on Old And Sold, you need to be a registered user. Registration is free.

How are bid increments determined? You will have an opportunity to choose the amount of the bid increment for your item when you create the auction. In the future we may implement an automatic increment system in which the amount of the increment is automatically adjusted to scale with the current bid-range.

How do I dress up my auction description? You can add color, bold, italics, emphasis, strong comments, centering, horizontal rule bars, fonts, headers and almost anything else that you wish. Just enter the proper HTML into the Description field of the auction.

How may I view all auctions that I am currently running? You can view any seller's complete list of auctions by selecting the 'username' radio button under the search field (at the top of every page), entering the seller's name, and then clicking the 'search' button.

May I end my auction before the assigned time? You may not terminate an auction which is in process unless you wish to completely withdraw the item. That is, if you terminate the auction, the current high-bidder will not win the item and ownership will remain with you. To terminate an auction, you must contact us via email and provide the item name, number and category and the reason for requesting termination. Unless you have an extremely exceptional reason for this, we will indicate the termination in your feedback history (it will be marked neutral to avoid affecting your actual ranking).

What if my reserve price is not reached? If your reserve price is not met, neither the high bidder nor seller is responsible for completing the transaction. The transaction is nullified. If you wish, you may repost your item.

Remember, if the highest bidder's final bid meets or exceeds the reserve, the seller is obligated to follow through with the transaction.

How long will my auction run? The length of your auction is entirely up to you. You may choose from one day up to fourteen.

Where do I look to verify that an auction has ended? Enter the item or auction number in the search field and click 'search'. The date and time the auction ended will be displayed next to the number of bids which were placed on the item in question.

You can also visit the Closed Auctions page to view details of auctions in which you were the seller or winning bidder.

Where do I find the buyer's email address and contact information? Visit the Closed Auctions page to view details of auctions in which you were the seller or winning bidder. You will find addresses, email addresses, names, bid amounts and everything else related to the item.

What if I can not contact the buyer? You may sell to the next highest bidder (if applicable to the situation) or relist your auction. You are also encouraged to leave feedback on the user's account regarding their lack of response.

What should I do if the winning bidder refuses payment or backs out? In the event that the winning bidder backs out of the auction or refuses payment, you may move on to the next highest bidder or repost the auction. Be sure to also leave feedback for the bidder so others may be aware before entering transactions with the user and deffinately report the user to us. We will keep those who fail to honor their bids on a special list.

Tips For Sellers

When placing an item up for auction, be as detailed as possible. Provide a photograph if you have one available. Include the shipping and handling information in the description of the item. Let your sellers know what method of shipping you will use and what the cost will be, including any special charges for overnight, insurance, or otherwise.

Do not bid on your own item. It helps neither the bidders or yourself.

Contact the highest bidder immediately after the auction ends. You will find their contact information both in your email and by clicking the Closed Auctions link.

After the transaction has been completed, be sure to leave feedback on the buyer. And remember that they'll be doing the same for you. As with the buyers, be accountable!

What if my item does not sell? If your item does not sell, you can choose the Closed Auctions link again, select the item you were selling, and click "Repost Auction" to place the item up for bid once again.

Bidder Instructions

Why do some auctions have 'reserve prices'? What are these? Sellers have the option to place a reserve on any item they are selling. A reserve is a price set by the seller below which they will not sell the item. If no bid is placed which meets or exceeds this amount, the seller retains ownership. Reserve prices are intended to protect the seller from unreasonable losses.

What is the cost of this service? There is no fee for bidding and buying. The only costs incurred are the direct costs of your winning bid and any related handling and shipping charges. The only requirement is that you be a registered user.

May I retract my bid? If you bid on an item, you are obligated to pay in the event that you win the item. To maintain the integrity of this site, you must provide an absolutely exceptional cause for retraction and contact both us and the seller. Unless you are absolutely certain you wish to purchase an item for any amount, up to that of your maximum bid, do not place any bid on any item. You will be held accountable for your bidding.

Where do I find the seller's email address and contact information? Visit the Closed Auctions page to view details of auctions in which you were the seller or winning bidder. You will find addresses, email addresses, names, bid amounts and everything else related to the item.

Where do I look to verify that an auction has ended? Enter the item or auction number in the search field and click 'Go!'. The date and time the auction ended will be displayed next to the number of bids which were placed on the item in question.

You can also visit the Closed Auctions page to view details of auctions in which you were the seller or winning bidder.

How do I pay the seller? We act as as the venue for sellers to conduct auctions and for bidders to bid on sellers’ auctions. We are not involved in the actual monetary transaction between buyers and sellers. As a result, all arrangements are made between the buyers and sellers.

What if the seller backs out? If the seller backs out leave your comment indicating the incident using Feedback. Also, notifiy us via email. If we detect a pattern with any seller canceling auctions we will termininate their membership.

What if the seller takes my money but does not deliver the item?
If it is your belief that the seller is acting in a dishonest or unethical manner, contact the seller through email, call the seller via the telephone, email us, or contact your local law enforcement agency.

You should allow at least seven days from the point the sale is closed for delivery. In some circumstances, yourself and the seller may arrange for other methods or exceptions to the delivery date.

Tips For Bidding And Buying

If you have any questions regarding an item, contact the seller before placing your bid. Also contact the seller immediately after winning an auction. They can retrieve needed information by viewing the closed auction, such as who and where to send the item to (you can also use the Closed Auctions link to view the seller's information), but personal contact between buyer and seller is considered proper ettiquette and reassures both in the process of the transaction.

Remember to view a seller's feedback history before bidding. After your transaction has completed, be sure to leave your own feedback on their history so that future buyers will know, based on your experience, whether or not the seller is worth future business. And remember, they can leave feedback about you-- so be accountable!
