Large Kestner 143 German Bisque Head Doll

Great Kestner 143 in impressive size of 24 inches. This particular Kestner mold usually came in much smaller sizes and it is very rare to find them in this large size.

This is one of my favorite character molds. She has the chubbiest cheeks and such a cute little smile. She looks like a cherub!

Beautiful bright blue glass sleep eyes, open mouth with darling two front teeth, thick multi-stroke eyebrows, handpainted upper and lower eyelashes, and original jointed wood and composition body.

She is wearing her original off white flannel chemise under her white vintage dress with blue polka dot wired bow. Her shoes are antique leather that are a little too big on her. She is wearing diamond pattern socks. Her hair is a blonde vintage human hair or synthetic wig with lots of spiral curls. She is wearing a pretty blue polka dot wired bow in her hair.

Marked on the back of her head is Made In Germany 143 K and a number I can't make out (looks like either 11 or 14).

Her original body has the red stamp associated with Kestner (Germany in a red box with the number 4). She is on a big chunky jointed body. It has some damage which includes a split and chipping to the finish on the right arm and shoulder, missing pointer finger on left hand, losses, crackling and damage to the composition on the knees and rest of body. Wear, cracks, scratches and crackling to overall finish to the paint from age.

Although the body has issues, it is still study and strong.

I looked her over very carefully and even though I cannot say with 100% certainty, I feel her head has an old restoration and was repainted. While I see no visible hairlines, chips or cracks I see evidence that the head was repainted (please see pictures to see the paint loss and overpainting).

Whoever did it, did a good job in my opinion because it looks nicely done. I see some very old yellowed tape inside the head and do not know why it is there. I think someone put it inside there to fortify the sides of the plaster holding the eyes in but cannot say for sure why it is there.

With no head damage or restoration this doll's book value is $1800-$2,000. Now is your chance to own a highly valuable antique Kestner for less than half it's value.

Because of this possible restoration, I am selling this doll "AS IS" with NO RETURNS. I would be more than glad to supply more photos and answer any questions you have before deciding to purchase. The stand and socks in the photos do not come with her.

She is a real beautiful doll that Kestner collectors love! You will cherish her too.

I accept money orders, bank checks, Western Union, International Bank Transfer in US dollars and Paypal (on a case by case basis)

The identification and dating of Antiques and Decorative Arts is at times a more or less subjective endeavor. For a variety of reasons, one Ďexpertísí results can differ from anotherís. My descriptions are based on my researches and experience. The time to question these, is before bidding, not after. I go to great lengths to be as accurate as possible and to provide enough photographs to allow the buyer to exercise their own judgment. However, I cannot be responsible for differing opinions, when brought into play after the close of an auction. If you remain uneasy about an item I am listing, even after contacting me, the decision to bid will be your responsibility.

I do not smoke, but do not know how many smoking homes these antique / vintage items have been in for all these years. I do have 2 dogs, but all my items for sale are kept behind glass or away from my pets.

If you have any questions please email me. I would be glad to answer your questions quickly. All sales are final as these items are vintage, antique or very old. Antique or vintage items are used and I never describe them as mint.

Any flaws I see will be noted in auction description. However, antique and vintage items are not perfect and may have imperfections from age that I may have missed by accident. I provide lots of photos at many different angles for you to see the condition very well. Therefore no partial refunds will be allowed. If anything needs to be returned you will pay return shipping. Refund will not include original shipping costs and item must be returned in the same condition as sent. More pictures will be furnished glady upon request. By bidding you agree to these terms. Thanks.

I pack antiques, porcelain, delicates, and collectibles with plenty of care. No need to worry. I usually have very fragile items professionally packed by the UPS Store and pay for that service out of my own pocket. I think my customers are worth the extra effort. Fragile items will be packed in layers of bubblewrap, and the box will be padded with plenty of cushioning.

If you need a little more time to pay for your items, please email me before making a purchase. There is a possibility we can work out a payment or layaway plan. Just remember to email me for details first, otherwise I need to stick to the original 7 day payment plan as stated above.

If a layaway or payment plan is okayed by me, a non-refundable good faith down payment of 30% must be paid to hold the item. If buyer changes his or her mind, the 30% down is non-refundable and can only be used as a credit and is good for 6 months.
