Outward Adorning And Personal Beauty

( Originally Published 1896 )

The clothing oft proclaims the man.-Shakespeare.

All women are good either for something or for nothing, and their dress will generally tell you which.-C. H. Spurgeon.

Man looketh on the outward appearance, but God looketh on the heart -Bible.

The body is the soul made visible. Ruskin.

Many people have beauty only on one side-the outside. Every person has a value according to the standard by which he is estimated. People are too apt to judge one another by their exterior-their face or form, their dress or adornments, their speech or manners. " Man looketh on the outward appearance." While all men have more or less love of the beautiful, yet it is seen that their ideas of beauty greatly differ. It is our purpose to inquire how to be truly beautiful ourselves -beautiful in the sight of God who "looketh on the heart," and beautiful according to the Psalmist's ideal when he prayed, "Let the beauty of the Lord, our God, be upon us."
