Goldie's Corner: Garage Sales
by L.A. Goldie

We are in the midst of all the wonderful weather spring can offer, and one of the dreaded tasks surrounding this time of year is Spring Cleaning ---- It's the time of year when one must shake out the winter dust, scrub out the winter scuffs, and shine up the windows! Must I go on?

On a positive note, spring as a rule gives way to roadside entrepreneurs. Yes, spring is when we begin seeing the multitude of roadside signs reading, GARAGE SALE. This is when Goldie finds it hard to pass by a given garage sale sign without stopping.

I have found many decorative treasures at such sales. Not to mention some very valuable antiques which I picked up for a steal. Last season I put together a wonderful bedside table out of old leather luggage. It makes a nice addition to my guest room. I found three wonderful pieces of luggage, one dark hunter green, one caramel, and one very dark brown. All three were leather and had interesting old hardware. I found each of them at different garage sales. The price for all three was $6.25! I cleaned them, polished them, and then stacked them. On top I placed a wonderful old tea cup and saucer, some 1920s sheet music (with great old pictures on the front of the sheets), and a wonderful old lamp. The effect was sheer magic---I would not change this table for any other.

Well, where I am going with all this? I was hoping to get some feedback from Old And Sold users on the subject of decorating with found items from garage sales, flea markets, Internet auctions, etc. I think it would be great to share some unique decorating ideas and stories from Old And Sold users. Please post your ideas to the Chat Cafe.

If one is feeling really energetic, then please browse Old And Sold's auction pages (there are nearly 1600 auctions), and tell us how you might utilize some of the items currently up for auction. It would be great to see the different ways one might use some of the unique pieces posted on the site. It may even serve to promote a sale on a given item.

It appears that online and offline sales continue to grow here at Old And Sold. I hope buyers and sellers are using word of mouth to promote the site? This is one sure way we can all aid in the growth of Old And Sold. This is truly a special forum. We need to spread the word, encourage others to join us, and take advantage of the wonderful experience of free enterprise and the community atmosphere that Old And Sold offers.

I want to take this time to welcome our newest Featured Dealers, Golden Goose Antiques and KJ's Antiques & Things. Thank You for choosing Old And Sold!

On a more personal note, I would like to extend my best wishes to Bill, Sally, and her family. Sally is one of Old And Sold's first Featured Dealers, A Verry Merry Berry Farms. Sally's husband Bill has just recently undergone a Heart Transplant. I hear that Sally is papering a wall with all the wonderful email well wishers have sent. If you would like to drop Sally a short note, please send email to: VMBF@aol.com

Get well soon Bill--- From A Bit Of An Angel,
